Isaiah 12 Months

(Note: This post is belated due to our vacation! Here's a recap of Isaiah's past month - he turned 1 year on July 21st)

 

Isaiah 12 Months Old

 

I'm Growing!

 

Mommy finally took my measurements! I weigh just over 19 pounds and maybe stand 27 and 1/2 inches tall (this most likely is inaccurate because I refused to be still).

Firsts:

 

Pointing (it's my favorite).

Walking! I started walking fast and furious the week before I turned one.  

 

Sleep:

 

Sleeping is the same as last month except for the few miraculous nights' sleeps (when I slept from approximately 8pm to 6/7am) that I snuck in there. But mostly I got to bed around 7:45/8pm and wake up around 6:30/7:30am with 1-2 wake ups at night (and mommy gives me a bottle then because I'll shriek her ear off until she does it). I'm still an excellent napper, napping 1-2 hours in the morning around 9/10am and 1-2 hours in the afternoon around 2pm. I put myself to sleep, I still sleep in my sleep sack, and I like to sleep with my Monkey Bear. 

Eat:

I have been much more into eating table foods this month. Still mostly exploratory, but I've started actually swallowing some more food and mommy seems really happy when that happens. I eat bananas, watermelon, grapes, kiwis, tomatoes, bread, beans, turkey lunch meat, and most recently I get little samples of what the rest of the family has for dinners, and I like being a part of that and trying new flavors. I also tried a popsicle for the first time. It was okay. 

 

Play:

Playtime is mostly me walking around and trying to get into things, like trouble mommy says. I still like to chase big brother around and play with him when he lets me. I really like picking up toys and walking around with them in my hands. I like this cool toy house our old neighbor gave to us. I recently started playing in tunnels - boy is that fun! 

Likes:

Walking. Still LOVE Opie and big brother. Any toy that big brother has, bath time, water - including pools and splash parks, and books.

Dislikes:

 

Exact same as last month. Still dislike being in my car seat and being confined by any device with straps. Really dislike when I see mommy walk away from me - mommy says I'm starting to get separation anxiety. And still really dislike diaper changes or getting clothes put on me. I also dislike when mommy cooks dinner now (see pic below). 

Memories:

We moved into a new house and Grandma Sue came to help watch us.

 

 

My first fireworks and 4th of July - I thought they were interesting... But they didn't really keep my attention that well. I preferred trying to steal glow sticks.

Then of course my first birthday! Mommy threw me a nice little celebration at our house.

Isaiah 11 Months

Isaiah 11 Months Old

I'm Growing!

Ugh mommy keeps forgetting to weigh and measure me... I know I wear size 12 month clothes and size 3 diapers, but that's about all I know.

Firsts:

Standing independently

Squatting ...  and clapping

Waving "hi" 

Walking with a walker

Slowly cruising around using furniture

First time grocery shopping in the big boy cart instead of mommy wearing me in my carrier. 

Sleep:

Sleeping is much better this past month. Mommy quit rocking me to sleep which wasn't very fun at first. But in no time at all I figured out how to fall asleep on my own for my two naps and bedtime. This helped my night time sleep a little. I still woke up about 2-3 times a night but it was improvement from where I was. I even gave mommy a couple of good 6-7 hour stretches of sleep. Mommy also doesn't rush in to nurse me back to sleep at night anymore. Sometimes she holds me and rubs my back and I lay my head on her shoulder and I calm down and fall back asleep. Other times she lays me in my crib once I'm calm and rubs my back until I fall asleep again. And then other times I just refuse all that. So the night time sleep is still a work in progress for me. 

Eat:

Well in addition to a little light sleep training this past month, mommy also decided it was best for our whole family that she wean me. So towards the end of the month mommy began giving switching nursing sessions with a bottle. We think this may have helped me make some progress in the sleep area too, but we may never know. I'm still not a fan of solids, but mommy finally stopped trying to shove those liquid solids in my mouth via spoon, and I like to do more of what she says is baby led weaning at meal time. I really just like to pick up the food and put it in my mouth and spit it out. Mommy did get me to eat some kiwis and potatoes this month. I also ate a whole piece of bread one time. It was yummy. I'm getting there. But let me tell you so far food is definitely fun to play with. 

Play:

Playtime is mostly me getting into trouble mommy says. I'm just really excited to figure out how things work and what the world has to offer. I like to stand and play and pull things off shelves. I like to chase big brother around and play with him when he lets me. I really like my walkers and turning other objects into walking toys. I also really like chasing balls around. There isn't much I don't like to play with to be honest. 

Likes:

Socks. I really like socks. Mommy calls me a sock monster. Everything else is pretty much the same as last month. Pretty consistent. Still LOVE Opie and big brother. Any type of ball, sticks, window sills to lean against and look out, cuddles in mommy and daddy's bed, tickles, any toy that big brother has, bath time, water - including pools and splash parks, and doing my new tricks like clapping or waving.

Dislikes:

Still dislike being in my car seat and being confined by any device with straps. Really dislike when I see mommy walk away from me - mommy says I'm starting to get separation anxiety. And still really dislike diaper changes or getting clothes put on me.

Color Run in Nashville with the family

Nashville trip with mommy, daddy, and big bro after dropping off Father's Day gifts at the NICU. We had a picnic dinner listening to Christian worship and then played around the Parthenon.

Isaiah 10 Months

I'm Growing!

...But Mommy hasn't measured me yet... 

Firsts:

While I pulled to standing for the first time last month, this month made it official - I'm a stander (as long as I hold on to something). 

I cut 4 new teeth just before I turned 10 months old. It was very very rough... I now have 4 teeth fully in and 4 teeth just cutting through the surface which technically means I have 8 teeth!

First time in a pool! I love water!

Sleep:

Unfortunately, my sleep took a hit again this past month. I still nap twice a day pretty well, but I make mommy bounce / rock me to sleep every time now. Bedtime started to get a little harder, especially as daddy was gone for work for two weeks and mommy was trying to take care of me and big brother. My night time sleep got better and then got worse. I was back to waking up every 2-3 hours, then as my teeth started coming in, I ended the month waking up a lot more and staying up in the middle of the night too. It was rough for everyone. Hopefully this next month will be better again. 

Eat:

I'm still breastfed and nurse every 3-5 hours during the day. At my last doctor's appointment, the doctor suggested mommy try to lengthen the time between my nursing sessions and feed me solids before getting breast milk to help encourage me to eat solids since I wasn't. This was both good and bad. It worked sometimes and didn't work other times. Sometimes I like to eat, sometimes I don't. Mommy still tries every day - both spoon feeding me purees and letting me eat safe table foods. She also went back to nursing me when I wanted, which was better for both of us, but in general I sort of have a breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack, dinner, and before bed snack. She keeps saying, "food before one is just for fun." And I seem to agree. I really like to chew on frozen peas and watermelon... And then spit them back out. 

Play:

Playtime is still me crawling and exploring and seeing what I can pull up on so I can stand. I still love playing with the set of balls my brother gave me for Christmas, they are so fun to chase around the house. I also really like to play at my activity table this month. Mostly, I like to see what new things I can get into. I also love when big brother asks me to chase him around the house. Sometimes mommy will find me just sitting quietly in different places of the house playing with something I found.

Likes:

Still LOVE Opie and big brother. Any type of ball toy, sticks, window sills to lean against and look out, cuddles in mommy and daddy's bed, tickles, any toy that big brother has, bath time, water.

Dislikes:

Still dislike being in my car seat and being confined by any device with straps. Still dislike eating solid foods. Dislike when I see mommy walk away from me. Dislike diaper changes.

Memories:

Grandma Sue came to visit over Mother's Day and we got to go to Nashville together. I got to go on a carriage ride.
